6th Biennial Philosophy of Communication Conference

Call For Papers
This conference extends the tradition of philosophical inquiry in the discipline of communication. The theme of the conference this year is theory, rhetoric, and practice of technology. The conference welcomes paper submissions with a wide variety of perspectives, intellectual traditions, and research methodologies. We welcome submissions from scholars at all levels, from emeritus faculty to undergraduate students.
Questions that the presenters may consider include, but are not limited to:

What role can media ecology play in thinking about how the extensions of our technology shape our communicative practices? How do machine learning and AI impact the very nature of communication?

Is “smartness” equivalent to “intelligence” vis-a-vis machine learning? What questions have been raised by recent critical, phenomenological, and rhetorical theories of communication and information?

How have the theories and philosophies of technology of communication changed over time?

What histories of media and technology have yet to be written?

Do we control the algorithms, or do they control us?

In what ways has our experience of remote learning changed communication instruction?
